With the federal government considering a new transportation bill, the Nevada Department of Transportation says extra funding could benefit 'wish list' projects around the valley.

While there are some major projects currently funded by bonds approved by Clark County voters, NDOT says more federal funding would always be welcome, to advance 'wish list' projects down the road.

NDOT spokesman Tony Illia says our state has state hasn't been keeping pace with how fast our population is growing.  Right now, the biggest project in the works is Project Neon, which will widen a portion of the 15 from Sahara to the Spaghetti Bowl.

Once that project is complete, NDOT will then focus on a new interchange at the 15 and Tropicana, breaking ground in 2020, near the news Raiders stadium.

As the federal government looks towards a possible transportation bill, Nevada's delegation is working to make sure our state gets its fair share.

U.S. Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (D-NV) is on the infrastructure subcommittee, and says she wants to see the I-11 project, which will link Las Vegas with Phoenix.  Rosen also says she's working alongside California's representative to get funding for the 15.

But without new funding, NDOT says a lot of the focus tends to be on maintenance rather than major new construction.

"The problem with that is when you do that and the states don't know that the money's going to be there, they pull back from pursuing those more ambitious projects," Illia says.
