Heavy rain and snow may be plaguing the Northwest today, but right before the Thanksgiving holiday, those weather troubles will be moving to the middle of the country.
A massive cold front is expected to sweep across the middle of the country bringing rain, snow, and even ice to states in the Midwest, Plains and the Rocky Mountains on Wednesday and Thursday.
Wednesday's weather won't be as bad with some light and scattered rain stretching from Michigan's Upper Peninsula down to East Texas. The snow will be limited to the higher elevations in the Northern Rockies and the Great Basin.
The snow in the mountains will likely cause some travel troubles, but Wednesday's rainfall won't be much more than a nuisance.
Thanksgiving day will bring slight improvement in the mountains, but it gets worse in the middle of the country.
Rain is more widespread and heavier from Michigan to Texas, and snow moves in behind it across parts of the Plains and the Upper Midwest. In between, we could see some ice accumulations, especially in parts of Nebraska and Kansas.
This likely means you could be stuck in the car a little longer. And with more than 98.6 million people expected to travel this holiday season thanks to the lowest gas prices since 2009, that could mean a lot more time on the road and less time eating turkey.
