A local veteran received the keys to a new home Friday and he won’t have to pay one penny toward the mortgage.
Raphael Pizarro served as an army corporal in the U.S. military for nearly two decades.
"When you do it, you never really expect some kind of return of it because you selflessly give of yourself,” Pizarro said.
But Bank of America believed Pizarro was deserving of something in return -- a mortgage-free home.
It’s the 25th home Bank of America has donated to Nevada veterans as part of an effort to give back.
"I have to accept it not only for myself but my brothers and sisters that continue serving right now,” Pizarro said.
Pizarro was overwhelmed with emotion as he walked through the home that he will share with his wife and four children.
The family plans to be moved in within the month.
