NLV mayor: Cracker Barrel sign of growth

A road trip tradition is coming to the valley after Cracker Barrel announced they now have two new locations coming to the Las Vegas area.

A groundbreaking was held at the new North Las Vegas location Wednesday.

Keeping with Cracker Barrel tradition, developers picked a location close to the freeway, which will provide easy access for people driving through the city or coming into town. The new location will be at the Craig Road exit on the Interstate 15.

The property is owned by the Morgan family. It was originally owned by Edward "Eddie" Morgan, who purchased it more than 50 years ago. It is now being leased to Cracker Barrel.

Developers hope the restaurant will also be a go-to destination for locals.

North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee says the future restaurant is a sign of growth for the area and shows how retailers and restaurants are starting to come back.

The restaurant and store will provide 175 new jobs to the North Las Vegas area, and he's hoping to see some momentum from it.

"This part of the city will soon be just as busy as Charleston and Sahara," Lee says. "This piece of property is in the exact position to be able to service that clientele and welcome people to North Las Vegas."

The restaurant is expected to open July 2016.

The other location at Silverton Hotel and Casino is expected to open around the same time.
