UPDATE 11 P.M. FEB. 13: 13 Action News spoke with the heartbroken mother of the victim.

Kim Briggs had spoken with her daughter, Brittney, the night before she was killed.

"I want to hold her," she said. "I just want to see her again."

The hours after the young mom was strangled are some of the hardest for her family to accept.

"Nadine is precious and doesn't deserve to have lost her mom," said Briggs.

The 3-year-old girl not only lost her mom but witnessed the unthinkable.

"She just keeps talking about seeing her mommy face down on the couch," said Briggs.

Right now, police are still searching for the killer.

The family says they desperately need justice.

"She didn't want to die," said Briggs, "she wanted to live for her little girl."

ORIGINAL STORY

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- A young mother was found dead inside her home, and friends say her 3-year-old daughter was in the other room when Brittney Briggs was killed.

"I've never seen anything like this around here happen, not even really a break-in, so it's a shock to all of us," said James Bass, who lives next door to Briggs' home.

She was found dead Friday morning at the home on Spindrift Court, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Mount Hood Street.

Unlike so many communities, the people who live around there all know each other, and they all knew Briggs.

"Since I moved in 10 years ago, I feel safe with the neighbors and we're just all kind of creeped out by it," said Chery Hope, another neighbor. "So sad, she was too young. So sad."

Police say they saw no signs of trauma when they found her body, but the coroner later found out the 24-year-old had been strangled. According to the Clark County coroner, the woman had several hemorrhages around her neck.

Neighbors said Briggs moved in about four years ago and has a daughter who is about 3 years old.

"Just a precious little thing, smart as a whip too," said Bass. "It saddens all our hearts to know that her mother's passed and gone now."

Around the time Briggs moved into the home, she met Maria Cane. Cane would grow to become one of her closest friends and the godmother to her daughter.

"All kind of things are running through my mind right now and my heart just breaks for Nadine, for the baby, for my goddaughter," said Cane.

Cane has no idea who might have killed Brittney, but that she was very talkative and friendly, even letting friends live with her.

"She started the online dating thing and ... she was trusting with everybody and that was something I was working with her about," Cane said.

Now Cane is taking care of Briggs' 3-year-old daughter.

"She is saying that she misses her mom, her mom has gone to heaven with her grandpa," said Cane.

Police have not identified a suspect and do not know why someone might have done this.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with Briggs' funeral costs.
