Action News is following more mail theft in the valley. This time, the crooks are being so sneaky, they aren't even damaging the cluster boxes.
'Simba' the dog gets his evening walk at about 11 p.m. each night. That's usually when Ilene Mann and her husband swing by to pick up the mail too.
But now, they have to change that routine because of mail thieves targeting their Summerlin neighborhood, Gardens Park, near Desert Inn and Hualapai.
"I don't want it sitting there at night if this is what's going to happen," said Ilene Mann.
It started last month, with just one of the cluster boxes. Then the following week, Ilene says, a handful were broken into. And this past weekend, it happened again.
"One of the neighbors put this sign up: 'Attention this mailbox has recently been burglarized! Please try to collect your mail every day'"
Mann isn't even sure what she's missing. But she's furious over the lack of attention and help her neighborhood is getting.
"I'm fuming because that's just so unacceptable. I mean, why do that A...and B somebody's gotta help us! And it should be the post office or the police and they don't want any part of it and that really bothers us."
She believes the solution is simple.
"You need to secure our mail, either you put in a different type of box, secure these boxes better, or give us home delivery, cause this is just totally unacceptable," said Mann.
The United States Postal Service told Action News they don't have any plans to change the material of the cluster boxes. But they said, "We follow every lead and investigate every report whether is comes from Metro or comes from our online reporting or our toll free center."
If you and your neighborhood fall victim to mail theft, the number to call is 1-877-876-2455. Or, you can go online and file a report under 'Postal Inspector'.
