An RV camper caught fire 11 miles south of Baker, California, just before 9 a.m.

The RV was owned by an elderly couple from Lafayette, Indiana. They were traveling with a friend from Minnesota.

All three managed to escape the vehicle but lost their possessions in the fire.

The elderly couple said the fire began to fill the cabin as they were driving. They pulled over, and everyone inside the RV ran into the desert. One woman ran without shoes.

13 Action News Vice President and General Manager Jim Prather and his wife, Marcia, captured footage of the fire en route to Las Vegas from California. Marcia escorted the three RV residents away from the fire. All five people waited in Jim and Marcia's car until fire crews arrived. They were afraid that the RV could explode.
