September is National Preparedness Month and both the city of Las Vegas and Clark County are working to improve the area's readiness in case of a disaster.

Las Vegas' Office of Emergency Management will provide links and preparedness tips through its official Twitter account, @CLVAlerts, every day during the month of September. More details on the city's emergency management can be found here.

Meanwhile, Clark County has teamed up with Las Vegas police and other community partners to help residents learn how to prepare for emergencies of all types.

During the month of September, free emergency preparedness handouts, booklets and other materials will be available at an informational exhibit set up in the rotunda on the first floor of the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Pkwy., in downtown Las Vegas.

On Aug. 31, the county's Office of Emergency Management is hosting a free seminar from noon-1 p.m. in the Pueblo Room of the Clark County Government Center to teach people about preparedness basics and how to build supply kits.
