Father arrested after 12-year-old shoots himself

A father has been arrested after a shooting that left his son dead.
 
On February 13, around 6:56 p.m., patrol officers were called to a residence near Buffalo and Vegas Drives for a report of a child shot.
 
Arriving officers located a 12-year-old male juvenile with an apparent gunshot wound. The child was transported by medical personnel to UMC where he was later pronounced deceased.
 
The investigation initiated by the LVMPD Abuse and Neglect Detail indicated the injury appeared to be self-inflicted. Further investigation revealed the firearm recovered at the scene was purchased previously by the father, identified as 31-year-old Olin Manuel.
 
Manuel was arrested without incident on February 17, 2016 and transported to the Clark County Detention Center where he faces the following charges:
 
-Child Abuse with Substantial Bodily Harm Resulting in Death
 
-Possession of Firearm by Prohibited Person
 
The identity of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
