UPDATE JULY 21: Las Vegas police held a press briefing today to talk about the shooting on July 18.
During the briefing, they showed two videos that captured the shooting on tape. The man who was shot can be seen running from a police officer. The video shot by the officer's body-cam shows the man pulling a gun from his waistband before being shot.
The shooting is still under investigation.
UPDATE JULY 20: The officer involved in Tuesday's shooting has been identified as 29-year-old Jeffrey Burr, who has been with the department since May 2009.
He has been placed on routine paid administrative leave.
ORIGINAL STORY
A shooting involving Las Vegas police is under investigation in the 6700 block of North Durango Drive near the 215 beltway in Centennial Hills.
A police spokesman said that they received a call at about 1:50 p.m. from someone expressing concern about an individual near a car in a parking lot.
The responding officer was able to determine the car involved was stolen prior to arrival. Upon arrival, the police officer attempted to make contact with the suspect.
The suspect took off and the officer followed. The suspect reportedly pulled out a gun during the chase and pointed it at the officer. The officer shot the suspect multiple times.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to UMC Trauma in critical condition. The suspect was in surgery at about 4:30 p.m.
Police say that the suspect was given multiple opportunities to stop and cooperate before the shooting.
The shooting happened in a shopping complex that is the home for multiple businesses including Kohl's, Pier 1 Imports, Buffalo Wild Wings, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Burger King and more.
This is the 12th shooting involving the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department so far this year.
