An entire Las Vegas apartment complex is on high alert after thieves were caught on camera targeting the community mailbox.

The owners of the Sun Chase Apartments near Desert Inn Road and McLeod Drive said the thieves struck around 2:45 a.m. Monday.

The video shows an African-American woman using a crowbar like tool to pry open a number of mailboxes, while another person acts as a lookout.

"There was two people, I know one of them was kind of the lookout, but there's a camera right there, they're not the brightest people in the world,” said Nicole Perrom, who lives in the complex.

Perrom said, as luck would have it, the thief passed over her mailbox.

Many others were not as lucky.

The video shows the thief, struggle with some boxes, even dropping the crowbar at one point.

"It's not the first time that this is happened here, and it's also not the first time I've seen strange people here,” Perrom added.

Apartment ownership confirms to Contact 13 the complex has been targeted before. Nearly 4 years ago, thieves were once again caught on camera stealing mail.

"It was pretty much everybody in the complex, and it was my mailbox area and I think the next one and I think it took about a month to get it replaced because the lock kept breaking,” Perrom said.

This time, apartment ownership has not reported the theft to authorities. The owners claim after the last big theft was reported, no arrests were made.

Authorities recommend reporting thefts to the postal inspector and to police right away.
