Over 40 people displaced by 3-alarm fire on east side of valley

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Over 40 people have been displaced by a 3-alarm fire on July 1.

It happened at the Sonoma Hills apartment complex located at 5100 East Tropicana Avenue near Nellis Boulevard.

A spokesperson for Clark County Fire Department says 31 adults, 15 children and 4 dogs have been displaced. At least 4 apartments were destroyed.

1 minor injury was reported but no one has been transported to a hospital. Clark County Fire Department officials confirm that three pet birds perished in the fire and one dog is still missing.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be a small child playing with fire according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Both the Clark County Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded to the fire. More than 80 firefighters were involved in fighting the fire.

The fire happened at an older apartment complex.

The American Red Cross is working with property management and the displaced occupants.
